Pheasant Run Estate

We believe this amazing creature (Pheasant) has watched over our progress from day one. Quite often we will still see him strut across the backyard. In homage to the unique history of this property and the love we feel for it, we knew we had to give it a name. It was easy! Of course it should be known as Pheasant Run.

Preschool Teacher Turned Blogger

Hello! My name is Kris Smith. My husband, Curtis and I have been married over 30 years and have four amazing kids, two darling daughters in law, and three beautiful grand babies. Our kids have never known a time when we weren't working on our home. We have enjoyed working side by side, improving each of our homes. In reality, we've found it's best if we each have our own individual projects going at the same time, but in the same general vicinity. In child development terms it's called parallel play. We both obviously like being in charge.

We bought our first home, a turn of the century classic charmer in Old Town Pocatello, Idaho in 1993. Curtis was studying for the Idaho State Bar Exam, I was starting a private preschool, and we had two little boys under three. In spite of our busy life, we still found time for scrubbing, stripping, sanding, tiling, painting, pruning and planting. This home was the beginning of our passion for demolition, design and home improvement. Since then, we have completely renovated a 1910 Bungalow and a 1952 Mid Century Modern, both in Idaho Falls.

Recently, we purchased a home on 2.5 acres that is quirky to say the least! The original farmhouse, detached garage, and large barn were built in 1911. In 2006, a very spacious and modern addition was designed and built onto the farmhouse by an Austrian Architect. It was an 8,200 square foot collision of two centuries with very little attempt to marry the two vastly different designs.

This blog is to share our journey of what will most likely be our final opus. Welcome to Pheasant Run!

Home Improvement is our passion, our hobby, our addiction and our therapy.
